How to monitor a website

BoostBackup is a powerful tool designed to monitor the availability of your website, ensuring that it remains accessible and operational at all times. This tutorial will guide you through the process of setting up a website health check using BoostBackup. By the end of this guide, you will have a reliable monitoring system in place to alert you if your website experiences any downtime or issues.

Step 1: Access the Health-Check Menu

Once you are logged in:

  1. In the left-side navigation menu, click on the Health-check menu item.

Step 2: Create a New Health Check

Once you have accessed the Health-check section:

  1. Click on the Create Health Check button.

This action will open a form where you can enter the details of your website health check.

Step 3: Fill Out the Health Check Form

The form consists of several inputs that you need to complete:

  1. Name of Website:

Enter a descriptive name for your website. For example, My Website.

  2. Type of Health-Check:

Select website from the dropdown menu.

  3. URL:

Enter the URL of the website you want to monitor. For example, https://mywebsite.com.

  4. Web Must Contain String:

This is an optional field. If you want the system to check for specific content on the website, enter the desired string here. For example, something. If this field is left blank, the system will only check for an HTTP status code of 200.

  5. Also Create Featured Alerts:

We recommend keeping this checkbox checked. This option will automatically create necessary alerts to notify you via email or SMS if the website becomes unavailable for a selected period.

Step 4: Save the Health Check

After filling out the form, click the Save button to create your health check.

Step 5: Monitor and Receive Alerts

Once your health check is set up, BoostBackup will start monitoring your website's availability. If the website does not return an HTTP status of 200 or if the specified string is not found (if provided), you will receive alerts on your configured alerting contacts.

Best Practices for Website Monitoring

  • Regularly Review Your Health Checks: Ensure that all health checks are up to date and accurately reflect your website's current status.
  • Test Alerts: Periodically test your alerting system to make sure notifications are being sent and received as expected.
  • Monitor Critical Pages: Besides the homepage, consider setting up health checks for critical pages, such as login pages, checkout pages, and key landing pages.

By following these steps and best practices, you can ensure that your website remains accessible and any issues are promptly addressed. BoostBackup provides a reliable and efficient way to monitor website availability, helping you maintain optimal uptime and user satisfaction.

Happy Monitoring!
